I know sooner or later the screen won’t work at all but will the computer still be running so I can hook it up a monitor?
But will the laptop completely break down with a cracked LCD?

You need not worry about the system. Though the LCD is cracked and gives up at sometime, your system will be just fine. You can simply hook it up to an external monitor and you will be fine.
YOu can actually simply replace the LCD screen. For my toshiba there are only 8 screws and about $70 bucks to hold my current LCD in there. Just make sure that you get an LCD that is of the same dimensions as your current one, and replace the screen. On a scale of 1-10 for difficulty, i give it about a 4 (only because some laptop lids are a little tricky to pop off)
You can hook up with an external monitor, however if you do not already have one…a new LCD is cheaper.
