keep the mains plugged most of the time. this should reduce the number of discharge cycles and would increase the battery life.

You can’t expand it. What you can do do maximise it’s life by removing it when the laptop is not being used as a mobile unit, and running on mains power.

One good advice to expand the life of your battery, when the battery is full and you intend to work for a long period of time, just plug your laptop to the wall and TAKE OFF the battery so it doesn’t overcharge and die prematurely

Never leave your laptop with the battery on when it’s plug to the wall and the battery is already full…. biggest mistake people make.

Laptop batteries have a limited amount of cycles they can go thru until they start to loose progressively the amount of charge they can hold.

1 cycle = 1 discharge and 1 recharge. Laptop batteries are usually good for 1000 cycles, so depending how often you go thru cycles will determine the life of your battery.

some people may mention a memory issue, this is only true with Nicad batteries which you may have… However, nowadays, laptop batteries are made with Lithium Ion ( check the battery to see which kind you have ), if it’s lithium ion ( should show up on the battery as Li-Ion ), there is no memory effect and you don’t need to worry about charging your battery only when it’s empty.

However, if you charge your battery when it’s half full all the time instead of waiting for it to be empty, your battery will cycle thru twice faster, thus, it will die twice faster.
